Today is Falls Prevention Awareness Day

Today — September 23 — is the First Day of Fall and is Falls Prevention Awareness Day. It is a day that calls for greater awareness of this important issue, which is a concern to anyone but especially to older adults. And it is a day that calls for more than awareness. In fact, it calls for people to take actions to help avoid the danger of falling.
The National Council on Aging (NCOA) created this short video highlighting 6 Steps to Prevent a Fall:
This video mentioned things like pursuing an exercise program, getting your ears and eyes checked regularly, talking to your healthcare professionals about medications and your own falls risk, keeping your home safe, and more. They recommended taking some steps to help reduce the risk of falls in your home like keeping clutter off the floor and ensuring you have good lighting.
