Join a nature walk. Learn how to age a tree.
As part of the upcoming VigRr ™ programming, Ned Barnard, Friends Life Care member and author, will lead a walk through Carpenter’s Woods in Mt. Airy.
Ned has spent years studying nature, and has published books featuring Central Park and Pennsylvania trees. During the one-mile Carpenter’s Woods walk, you will learn the special characteristics – quite apart from their sizes – that distinguish ancient forest trees from younger ones. You will also learn how to identify some of the most common trees growing in Pennsylvania forests. He has even done the wok to age some of the trees along the path and will be able to share their actual, ancient ages. With a bit of luck, bird enthusiasts may get the chance to observe some of the less common avian inhabitants of Carpenter’s Woods such as a pileated woodpecker or a screech owl.
