Friends Life Care member and author of a guide to Philadelphia trees, Ned Barnard, will lead a one-mile walk through Carpenter’s Woods in Mt. Airy.
You will learn the special characteristics – quite apart from their sizes – that distinguish ancient forest trees from younger ones. You will also learn how to identify some of the most common trees growing in Pennsylvania forests. With a bit of luck, bird enthusiasts may get the chance to observe some of the less common avian inhabitants of Carpenter’s Woods such as a pileated woodpecker or a screech owl.
