Workshop leader: Cindy Flores, MA, LPC
As a follow-up to the Introduction to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) presented at the Spring 2015 Member Meetings, Cindy Flores will take you deeper into the practice during this workshop series. MBSR is a unique blend of meditation, body awareness and movement: learning through practice and study how your body handles (and can resolve) stress neurologically. During this workshop, you will learn how to bring the process of mindfully living in the present moment into your everyday life.
More than 30 years of research, much of it specifically studying MBSR, indicates that mindfulness training can have a significant therapeutic effect for those experiencing stress, anxiety, high blood pressure, depression, chronic pain, migraines, heart conditions, diabetes and other ailments. In addition, participants typically report feeling more alive and more “in-tune” with themselves and others. MBSR is designed to be done in a group setting because there is an accelerated effect due to the synergy of the group.
Each class includes an explanation of MBSR, experiential activities and processing of your experience. Each participant will be given a CD with exercises so practice can continue in between sessions and after the series is completed.
Cindy Flores was trained as an MBSR teacher by the Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine, Thomas Jefferson University. She has been teaching mindfulness for over 5 years. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has had a private practice in West Chester for over 12 years. She is an adjunct professor at Immaculata University.
